Pink Colombia
Pink Colombia is a vivid South African Novel set against the final years of apartheid in the early 1990’s. It explores the sensuality of youth as well as the vulnerabilities of women and children during a time when there was little opportunity for choice. It also explores the consequences of the choices we make as young people, without enough insight into the circumstances that might follow. Blending raw emotion with a dreamlike coastal atmosphere, Guenevere Ram takes the reader on a beautiful and thought provoking journey starting in rural Africa. In her unique way of story telling she encourages her reader to journey with her to different areas of the country by introducing a number of intriguing characters and places, that keep the pages turning.
Pink Colombia is more than just a book about sex drugs and rock and roll, it is a deeply introspective novel with a hidden message to women about reclaiming the power of their role as the moral care givers. It is also a book that highlights the lives of two strong women, Virgina Franks and Faith Kelly who separately encounter members of the imperilling Colombian drug cartel represented by Ronaldo Martinez and Juan Carlos; who entered the country without regard for the lives they would destroy. Amongst other things, it is a message about the unadulterated courage of a mothers heart to rise above adversity and raise her children with a strong moral conduct. Pink Colombia is her-story about nurturing the children caught up in the aftermath of his-storical injustice.
Although based on a true story, all of the characters are fictional and so are all of the events making this a deep and reflective novel that feels close to the bone for many women of all colour, who fell victim to abuse during the apartheid regime in South Africa.
